Chori Chori

I was listening to a song of Lata Mangeshker “Rasik balma” from film “Chori Chori”
This signature song from the film, made the Composers Shanker Jaikishan won their first Filmfare award.(1956)
This rewound my memory, remembering having read, years back, this interesting incident relating to this song!
This episode is also interconnected to the famous, and popular producer director of yesteryear, Mr.Mehboob Khan.
His award winning classic “Mother India”(1957) was the first Indian film nominated for the Oscar Awards. The function was held in L A (1958) Unfortunately the film was short of only one vote to be a winner.
Anyways that was a bad luck not only for him, but for the whole Indian Film Industry.

While he was still in LA he suffered a heart attack and was admitted in a hospital.
While recovering, before going to bed, he wanted to refresh his mind. Those days were without cell phones and Wifi. Even TV was not introduced in India.
He asked the nurse to get him connected on landline to the number in Mumbai, then Bombay. After a brief conversation on the connected line, he asked the person to sing for him a song. Request was granted and Mr.Mehboob Khan refreshed himself.
The person who sang for him was non other than Lata Mangeshker and the song was “Rasik Balma”

Some day I will share some more interesting facts about him.
Only little to share now is, the great director had a good relationship with the then PM Pandit Nehru. Both were fans of each other. Coincidentally they both passed away from cardiac attack. Latter on 27th May1964 in New Delhi, and former followed him in the morning hrs.of 28th May 1964 in Bombay.
