Sangam Song

The song from “Sangam”; “Yeh mera prem patra” is undoubtedly an evergreen classic. It will be on the lips of music lovers for generations to come.
It has got some interesting stories that occurred during the filming and recording of it.

It is the first and probably the last song to be filmed in the back yard gardens of Rastrapati Bhawan, the world’s biggest state house. Its gardens are considered one of the best and were planted by the former British Viceroy in line with the Moghul Gardens of Kashmir, planted by the Moghul Emporer, Jahangir.

To film this song in the Gardens, Raj Kapoor, a great showman of Bollywood, used all his influence. The almost unfeasible request was granted with certain conditions, including bringing certain amount of foreign exchange into the country after the release of “Sangam”

Before the recording of the song, Raj Kapoor asked Composer Jaikishan to record it using Mahendra Kapoor’s voice on Rajendra Kumar, as Shanker, Jaikishan’s counterpart, had already recorded a song with Mahendra Kapoor on Rajendra Kumar. Jaikishan put his foot down and said that none of the singers in the world would sing this composition but Mohammed Rafi. Raj Kapoor had to abide by this stubborn decision.
